Good news to hear that after raising concerns of residents in Banchory, NHS Grampian are planning to put a blood-test hub in Banchory!
And there is a secondary care hub now based in Aboyne. This will be a great relief for the many people who faced 40-mile round trips for their tests!
I’ve also been informed that the following steps have been taken to support the safe delivery of care for patients as the secondary care hubs become more widespread and available:
For blood tests for cancer patients that are not time critical and can safely be done in the secondary care hubs, the hospital will pay for taxis for patients who do not have access to their own transport.
Additional staff have been appointed in the hospital to support the booking of hub appointments for patients and to ensure that their blood results are reviewed quickly, so that any abnormalities can be acted on.
Most GP Practices are continuing to provide a very reduced prioritised service for blood tests such as these, under limited circumstances.
