A recent survey showed that over 90% of respondents would be detrimentally affected by the overnight closure of three Aberdeenshire minor injury units. The decision to close Huntly, Fraserburgh, and Peterhead units overnight, especially with minimal consultation, sends a troubling message to communities already struggling with reduced rural healthcare services.
Since these cuts, I have heard first-hand from patients who fear medical issues overnight, with many forced to delay or forgo care altogether. When the paper outlining the impacts of this decision is published early next year, I hope this harmful decision will be reversed to protect the needs of our communities.
