Ofgem has announced that energy suppliers are committed to replacing the 800,000 Radio Teleswitch (RTS) meters across the UK before the service is switched off next summer, as RTS has reached the end of its operational life. The switch-off will affect domestic customers and businesses who use RTS meters. If these are not upgraded before 30 June 2025, heating and hot water supplies at these properties could be disrupted.
To check if you have an RTS meter, look for the following:
• A separate switch box near your meter with an RTS label
• The property uses electricity or storage heaters for heating
• No gas supply to the area
• You receive cheaper energy at different times of day
If you think you have an RTS meter or are unsure, contact your electricity supplier. They can confirm if you have one and arrange a meter upgrade.
