A reminder that whilst unfortunately ticks have become a year-round threat as a result of climate change, with milder winters extending the tick season, as we enjoy the warmer weather please be vigilant and read up on how to prevent and recognise the symptoms of Lyme Disease.
According to the Lyme Resource Centre, there is little awareness about ticks and the effects a tick bite can have, and Scotland accounts for 25% of all reported cases of tick bites in the UK.
I will continue my calls to the SNP Government to ensure that more is done to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Lyme Disease, and to improve public awareness campaigns. Many infections go undiagnosed and more needs to be done to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
I want to add thanks to Tick-borne Illness Campaign Scotland and Lyme Disease UK for all their work on this very important issue.
