In a major U-turn, SNP ministers have lifted their controversial ban on installing wood-burning stoves and direct-emission heating in new homes, following strong backlash from rural communities and pressure from the Scottish Conservatives.
This decision, though overdue, is welcome, as the original policy would have had serious impacts on those relying on wood stoves, particularly in remote areas during extreme weather.
While I support climate action, it must go hand-in-hand with strengthening local communities, not compromising them. The SNP should apologise for this misstep and commit to avoiding similar policies in the future.
