Fixing Aberdeenshire's Broken Bridges

The Scottish Government has failed to provide Aberdeenshire Council with the necessary funding for vital bridge infrastructure repairs. A recent report revealed that over 60 bridges across Aberdeenshire require repairs by 2030 or face closure. Without proper financial support, these essential restorations are at risk and over 120 rural communities could be separated.

Park Bridge was permanently closed in February 2019, forcing residents to make a 15-mile detour and separating the communities of Durris and Drumoak, which had been connected for nearly 170 years.

Similarly, the Aboyne Bridge was closed in November 2023 and isn’t expected to reopen until late 2025 or early 2026. Restrictions have also been placed on Dinnet Bridge, further impacting constituents who rely on these vital routes for commuting.

I have opened a petition urging the Scottish Government to provide Aberdeenshire Council with the funding it urgently needs to repair these bridges. We must address this issue and keep our communities united. Your support for the petition would be greatly appreciated—you can sign it here.
