Craig was elected in the May 2022 council election after retiring from a career in the oil and gas industry that spanned almost 30 years, living and working in a number of countries overseas. He has lived in the ward for 20 years and so knows the local area well.There is a strong connection to oil and gas in the Westhill ward with the town known as a centre for subsea excellence.

Craig has been active in the conservative party since the mid-1980s and is a veteran of many election campaigns. He currently sits on the Garioch Area Committee as well as the Business Services committee.
