Local Conservative Candidate for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, Alexander Burnett, met this week with newly appointed Business, Enterprise and Energy Minister, Matthew Hancock.  Alexander and the Minister discussed renewable energy schemes and opportunities within Aberdeenshire.  Alexander briefed the Minister on the Hill of Banchory Biomass Heat Network, one of Scotland's largest district heating schemes, and the importance of renewable energy supply chain companies, including local pellet producers Stovies in Arbuthnott.  These companies create local jobs and benefit from the Renewable Heat Incentive, recently introduced by the UK Government.

After the meeting, Mr Hancock said “Alexander is the local champion for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine.  He has led the way in energy efficiency through an inspirational biomass heat network in Banchory over many years.  I'm sure he will bring the same energy and enthusiasm as an MP. His knowledge will be invaluable for expanding renewable energy generation across the North-East, helping to cut carbon and helping the UK meet our energy targets.”

Alexander Burnett added “I will work tirelessly to ensure that Aberdeenshire continues to address the long-term challenges of affordable energy provision and climate change. Too many of our citizens live in fuel poverty, especially in rural areas.  Seeing household energy bills cut and encouraging energy efficiency measures must be a priority. To save energy, there also needs to be more public awareness about how energy is used effectively. Biomass creates jobs in the forest sector, adding to the economic, social and environmental benefits of renewable energy.  I will continue to be a powerful local voice for change on these issues.”
