A major contract for the Clyde naval base shows the UK Government is already coming good on pledges made before the referendum, the Scottish Conservatives have said.
The Ministry of Defence deal to sustain the management of Faslane will sustain 1500 jobs until at least 2020.
The cash will also be used repair Royal Navy warships over the next five years.
During the referendum campaign, the UK Government made clear that Scotland would benefit from such deals as long as it remained part of the UK.
Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said:
“This deal simply would not have happened had Scotland voted Yes to separation.
“It was made perfectly clear that the MoD would not have commissioned such work in a foreign country.
“Now, only weeks after the vote, we are already seeing the UK dividend we spent so much time talking about over the past couple of years.
“While the SNP would have jeopardised the existence of Faslane, the UK Government is making sure it will continue to thrive.”
