The Health and Social Care Partnership is considering merging GMED bases in Fraserburgh, Huntly, and Peterhead, following the recent closure of overnight MIUs in these towns.
I am deeply concerned that centralising Aberdeenshire’s GMED services to Aberdeen would endanger lives, forcing residents to travel over 30 miles for urgent care, and increasing pressure on the Scottish Ambulance Service and the emergency department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, which are both already at breaking point. GMED services are critical, especially for rural communities, and these cuts imposed on NHS Grampian are a direct result of the savage funding cuts inflicted by the SNP government on NHS Grampian.
I, like residents, was furious with the decision to close the MIUs without consultation, and I am committed to ensuring NHS Grampian fully engages with the public so their voices can be heard on the future of the GMED services.
