This Lyme Disease Awareness Month, I am grateful for the opportunity to use my voice in Parliament to spread awareness and to advocate for those affected by this under supported disease. During my time as an MSP, I have strongly supported the Tick-borne Illness Campaign in Scotland and fully backed their aim to achieve better treatment for patients in Scotland with Lyme Disease and related co-infections.
Ticks are common throughout Scotland, but tick bites are more prevalent in rural areas, especially among those exploring the countryside. With a rural constituency like Aberdeenshire West, I know the likelihood of exposure to ticks and see real benefit from raising awareness of the importance of understanding preventative measures.
In the spirit of spreading awareness, I want to share the short animation on Lyme Disease and protecting yourself from tick bites that Lyme Disease UK have released. To all my constituents and all the people of Scotland, I encourage you to take the necessary precautions to prevent Lyme Disease.
I would also ask that you sign this petition, which I am also in support of.
