Bookmakers have slashed the odds on the Scottish Conservatives winning West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine. Priced at 10/1 or longer at the start of the campaign, candidate Alexander Burnett is now as short as 9/2.
By contrast, the LibDems have drifted to 10/1 or longer at the bookies as support drains from their campaign.
This is confirmed by all the reliable and independent polling and commentators. The Ashcroft poll shows that only the Scottish Conservatives can beat the SNP. Newspaper analysis confirms that fact. And contact with thousands of voters over the last few weeks has made it clear that LibDem support in WAK is following the Scotland wide pattern where poll after poll has shown that 6 out of every 7 of their voters have walked away and half of them plan to vote SNP.
Conservatives, Labour and remaining LibDem voters are now asking why they should back a Party if so many former supporters are propping up the SNP?
As the momentum swings towards the Conservatives in the final days of the campaign, Scottish Conservative candidate, Alexander Burnett said:
"The bookies have confirmed what we all knew: this is a two horse race and the LibDems are now also-rans.
"Thousands of voters are backing our plan to secure the recovery and secure the Union. They know it's not worth taking a punt on Labour or the LibDems.
"Labour fell at the first fence and the Liberals have tailed off.
"Only the Scottish Conservatives can catch the SNP. It's going to be a photo finish but we can pip them at the post."
