After being appointed Shadow Energy Spokesperson, , I have met with many companies to find possible solutions to the ongoing job losses in the North Sea
In late July, I met with CHC Helicopters based out in Dyce, along with Oil and Gas UK. They both made it clear that keeping a young workforce is key , so as business is able to pick up again easily when the oil price returns.
As a result CHC Helicopters have committed to retaining their apprentices, throughout this difficult period. It is also clearly evident that we must keep a supply chain in the North East, as without such a workforce - the oil and gas sector would not be able to diversify and grow.
Deidre Mcihie, the head of Oil and Gas UK praised the UK Government for making the UKCS the most 'fiscally competitive' in the world. However I realise much more can be done.
