As the Scottish Environment LINK species champion for red squirrels, I frequently raise awareness about this threatened species in the UK. I firmly believe that effective management of grey squirrels is essential to protect our beloved red squirrels.
I regularly pose questions in the chamber regarding red squirrel conservation. If you’d like to read my questions and the Scottish Government’s responses, please click here.
Each year, I also raise awareness for Red Squirrel Week, including promoting the annual Great Scottish Squirrel Survey, which helps us understand changes in the squirrel population over time. This data is crucial for conservation efforts, especially since red squirrels are a threatened species. The Great Scottish Squirrel Survey takes place each year at the beginning of October, and I encourage everyone to participate in the next one.
